Pga Tour Champions Builds To 2022 Finish With Mission Hills, Desert Getting Closer
The DGPT is introducing a new series of special events called Elite+, which it says will impact tournaments with “bigger purses, additional media attention and a great fan experience.” Just like the playoffs. It is a four-week tournament. In 2023, the Ledgestone Open and Portland Open will be designated as Elite+ events.
“Basically, we’re looking at a number of different changes that can take events that are already successful and give them extra traction to attract national media attention,” said Charles McCracken, DGPT communications manager. It’s unclear whether that will mean coverage of the tournament by major media outlets like ESPN, or an effort to write articles about the tournament. McCracken said Ledgestone and Portland have already had the largest purses in previous DGPT Elite events, so it’s only fitting that it’s one of the top disc golf markets in the country. Elite+ and playoff events are expected to have the highest purses on tour.
Silver Series events have been renamed to simply Silver Events. They haven’t given details on how they earn points for next year, but by 2023 they will account for more than 25 percent of elite competition points. Additional Silver Events will count towards a player’s total points (in 2022 only three Silver Events per player count towards total points).
