Green Day headlined Saturday’s sold-out Innings Festival with their first live show of 2023 at Tempe Beach Park.
The latest track is “21st Century Breakdown”. In the 14 years since then, they have released five albums. Both are good records, full of their greatest hits that sound right at home.
Even the stunts on stage were a huge success. They had a fan come out on stage and play guitar, just like they’ve done for years on Ivy Action’s “Knowledge.” I even found a review from 2002 and talked about it as usual.

The crown went to “King For A Day,” which was later covered by the Eisley Brothers in “Shout,” as it was in 2002. Their touring saxophonist even got into “Careless Whisper” like the last time I saw Green Day.
Billie Joe Armstrong sang “Waaaay-oh” to his fans more than 10 times, and the fans responded with “Waaaay-oh” (a technique he borrowed from the kinks).
If you’ve seen Green Day once (or twice, or 20 times), then this is the Green Day concert you’ve been waiting for.
Louder Than Life Festival: Foo Fighters, Green Day, Tool, Pantera, More
Armstrong was a ham, and he never came across a piece of clothing that he couldn’t get the most out of. That’s why it works. You are captivated by his enthusiasm and it works for you. Men are born to entertain.
He even got a laugh when he changed the lyrics of “Longview” to “I’m looking at my phone but I don’t like TikTok.” But his performance as Paul Stanley on Kiss’ “Rock and Roll All Nite” was much more entertaining.
At Innings Fest, he got an amazing assist from a fan named Jordan, a young woman who was pulled from the crowd for Ivy’s act. He’s completely in the moment, clearly excited and overwhelmed, but also confident enough to bounce off the drums. The look on Armstrong’s face when he told him he could keep the guitar he was playing was priceless. He wants to continue playing.

Old reviews revisited: Green Day’s Phoenix tour will be full of politics, bullshit, nostalgia and noise.
As for Green Day, some of us never want our favorite artists to settle for greatest hits. However, Paul McCartney performed more Beatles songs than solo works. It’s just the nature of the beast. There’s no reason to think this isn’t what most people were hoping for when they bought their tickets.
It doesn’t hurt that Green Day’s greatest songs are truly undeniable, from “Basket Case” and “Longview” to “American Idiot” to their rendition of “21st Century Breakdown.”

They keep these songs going with the necessary recklessness, thanks to an age-defying performance from drummer Trey Cooley, who feels like someone’s trying to finish something before the subway car doors close, and bassist Mike Dirnt’s booming presence, which is a great rhythm section for this sort of thing.
Their content spread after Duke, with touring guitarist Jason White admirably filling the role he’s held since 1999. After Chuck Berry, his lead sometimes recalls the Kinks’ Dave Davis, which only adds to the song’s power.
Green Day opened with the title track “American Idiot,” a six-platinum comeback album that made critics rethink the people who brought “Longview” to the world on “Dookie” after they were written off like most critics.

American Idiot dominated Green Day at Innings Fest, suggesting it was their Tribe album that finally convinced the unbaptized cognoscenti that they were the children of those early Lookouts! The records were always good.
It would be nice to think that a band this good could catch lightning in a bottle again, but like the Rolling Stones before them, one day you’ll step up and give the people what they want.
With a double rendition of American Idiot’s brilliant ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’ and ‘Jesus in Suburbs’ before the show’s rousing climax, they closed with a beautifully sophisticated ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ and sent the crowd off ‘I hope you had the time of your life’.
Green Day Rocked The Hits At Innings Fest In Their 1st Show Of 2023
There’s no reason to believe that people don’t feel the same way, from young kids attending a Green Day concert for the first time to truckloads of 50-year-old “Dookie” fans. Although there were a lot of live shows last year thanks to the Hella Mega Tour, Green Day don’t have many shows in 2023 – maybe because they also released new music last year?
In any case, their first show of the year was Saturday night at the Innings Festival in Tempe, Arizona, where they could see the newly blonde Billie Joe Armstrong and co. Visit Tempe Beach Park.
There are no surprises or new songs in their hit-packed playlist – instead, the trio brings all the classics plus legendary covers with their references and knowledge of Operation Ivy.
