Mexican-American singer Lila Downs is back in concert with her Latin-influenced voice. Winner of six Latin Grammys and one Grammy, Downs has one of the most powerful and unique voices today. Downes’ music reflects the cultures of Osaka, Mexico, and the United States where he grew up. He sings in Spanish and English, sometimes mixing traditional Mixtec, Zapotec, and Maya. Born and raised in Osaka and Minnesota, Lila Downs is the daughter of a local mixed-race woman and an Anglo-American father. He wrote anti-indigenous stories that preserved the original concept of Oaxacan culture’s sacred plants and foods while preserving the traditions of the Americas. Passionate human rights activist, Lila Downs’ speech often reflects the stories of social injustice and experiences of Latin American women from indigenous and working-class backgrounds of oppression.
